The Only Animal is known for it's imaginative locales, creating theatre in swimming pools, with snow and ice and sand and water. Their new offering takes us deep into a mossy forest and to the remains of a pioneer homestead for Tinkers.

Based on the Pulitzer-Prize winning novel by Paul Harding, Tinkers features a dazzling relationship with the natural world, woven into a family story. Our hero is Howard, an epileptic peddler with a horse-drawn wagon, estranged from his wife, but in an ever-ecstatic relationship with nature. Do his fits mean he is touched by God or needs to be put away? Around the family, the townsfolk intensify these domestic tensions. Tinkers travels deep into the wilds seeking the secrets of interconnection within families and rural communities.

Tinkers is created by The Only Animal, based on Paul Harding's novel, adapted and directed by Kendra Fanconi, designed by international environmental artist, Cornelia Konrads with a cast of local artists and those from across BC. Some of our past award-winning shows include NiX: theatre of snow and ice, for the 2010 Olympics, and The One that Got Away a play in a pool, Sea of Sand, on a public beach and Nothing But Sky, a living comic book. We take theatre where it has never been before.
